I have to find a scholarly (peer-reviewed) article. What is that?
Is this Article Peer Reviewed?
Answer
A scholarly, or academic, article is an article that appears in a scholarly journal. They are written by experts, for experts, and focus on narrow topics. Historians have different scholarly journals than chemists.
Scholarly journals also have letters, editorials, news, and other items which are not scholarly articles. You will need to look at the content to be sure you have an article.
Peer review or "refereeing" is the process in which a researcher's work is reviewed by experts (i.e. referees) in the researcher's field before being accepted for publication (in the case of journals).
Our databases then provide access to these publications and allow you to limit to only Peer Reviewed/Scholarly Articles to remove books, and popular newspapers and magazines. Our Discovery Search on our homepage allows for the same limits.
