Help! I can't use the library's databases. What can I do?

Answer

We're sorry that you're experiencing issues accessing the library's databases. The following set of questions will:

  • hopefully resolve your issue
  • help us resolve the issue.
  1. Try accessing the database through a library provided link on the Databases A-Z list. If this resolves the issue, you were given a bad link. Continue on if you're still experiencing issues.
  2. Are you a currently enrolled/employed student, faculty, or staff member of West Texas A&M University (WTAMU)? If you're not currently enrolled or employed by WTAMU, you are not able to have access to library databases unless you're physically at the library, except in one case:
    1. If you're not currently enrolled but are a graduate student working towards an incomplete, thesis, or comprehensive exam, please have your professor fill out and submit this form.
  3. Are you on- or off-campus?
    1. If off-campus, can you log into Buff Portal?
      1. If you cannot login to Buff Portal, you will need to contact IT at itsc@wtamu.edu.
      2. If you can, continue to step 4.
    2. If on-campus, continue to step 4.
  4. Are you able to get into the database but hit pay walls?
    1. If yes, please contact us through "Email a Librarian" and let us know which database you're using and the resource you're attempting to retrieve from that database.
    2. If you cannot get access to the database at all and you receive an error message, continue to step 5 and take screenshots of any error messages you receive.
  5. Try the following steps to clear common technology related complications, if these don't resolve your issue please move onto step 6:
    1. Clear you cache
    2. Use incognito mode
    3. Try a different browser
    4. Try restarting your computer
  6. To see if the issue is database specific or systemic, can you use all or some of the following databases Academic Search CompleteCredo Reference, and Nexis Uni?
    1. Please contact us through "Email a Librarian" and let us know which database you're experiencing issues with, which of the above links actually worked, and your Buff ID.
